Traditional Gianelli State Fair Sausage Sandwich

1Preheat oven to 400°F. In a medium bowl, combine onion, peppers and olive oil. Mix together and put aside.

2Place sausages and onion and pepper mixture in an oven ready (glass or broil foil) pan and cook for 15-20 minutes. Turn once, and continue cooking for an additional 15-20 minutes. The internal temperature must reach 160°F.

3Once sausage is thoroughly cooked, remove pan from oven and let ingredients cool slightly. Place sausage into fresh roll and cover with the cooked onions and peppers. *If marinara sauce is desired, place marinara sauce on roll and then top with sausage, peppers, and onions.


*Please note that Pork, Turkey or Chicken sausage can be used in this recipe. Please reference for proper cooking temperatures.
*If desired, this recipe can be prepared ahead of time up to one day or several hours. Prepare sausage as instructed in the directions above. Then place in refrigerator until required. When needed, turn grill to a med-high temperature, place sausages onto grill and turn occasionally to caramelize and heat through.


1 Package Gianelli Hot or Sweet Italian Sausage Links

1 Package of Favorite Bakery Fresh Roll of Choice

1 Large Spanish or White Onion, Thinly Sliced

3 Large Bell Peppers, Any Color, Seeded and Thinly Sliced

1 TBSP Olive Oil to Sauté Onions and Peppers

*1 Jar Marinara Sauce of Choice
